EARNHARDT IS READY FOR THE SHOW
* Dale Earnhardt has 46 victories on Superspeedways; nine of those came at Talladega's 2.66 mile high-banked tri-oval. In 1999, the GM Goodwrench Service Plus team took the broom to the field by sweeping both of Talladega's NASCAR Winston Cup events. Earnhardt also took the trip to victory lane with a last lap pass in the International Race of Champions event putting him into position to win the IROC Series championship.
* In the spring Talladega event, the GM Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo started from the fourth position. They moved up one spot after the 188 lap event, finishing third making it his 20th top-five finish at the speedway.
* The GM Goodwrench Service Plus team showed last week they are digging deep to do their part in the chase for the championship. With an unofficial stop watch displayed during the broadcast on the TBS Superstation, they clocked the GM Goodwrench Service Plus pit crew with a 12.8 second pit stop. It wasn't long ago that a 17-second pit strop was considered extremely quick. The GM Goodwrench Service Plus crew raised the bar on pit stops during this seasons events. The GM Goodwrench Service Plus Flying Aces are showing past form from when they won four consecutive Pit Crew championships in the 1980's.
"I've said it before it's a big chess game," stated Dale Earnhardt. "This time it's even a bigger one with the changes it should be easier to pass, but you can't pull away. With five laps to go any of the top 15 cars could win with these changes. It should be a heck of a race this Sunday."
"He can see the air," claimed Richard Childress of his driver Dale Earnhardt. "This is going to be a Dale Earnhardt style race. When we went down to Daytona with NASCAR and all the other teams it was exciting to watch the moves being made. It brought more racing back into the drivers' hands. It didn't eliminate the close racing, you still can't check out on the field, but it should be exciting for everyone."
* Condolences to the Hamlin Family; Arthur Hamlin, grand father of GM Goodwrench Service Plus crew chief, Kevin Hamlin, passed away on Saturday, September 30th in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was 91 years old.
