Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 8 Inducted Into DAYTONA USA
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Feb. 18, 2004) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet has finally slowed down.
On Monday at DAYTONA USA, Earnhardt Jr.'s Daytona 500-winning No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet was inducted into DAYTONA USA, the official attraction of NASCAR.
The car will rest inside Gatorade Victory Lane at DAYTONA USA for one year and will be returned to the team before the start of the 47th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 20, 2005.
The car is in the same condition as it was when it left Gatorade Victory Lane and bears the signatures of all of the crew members including Earnhardt Jr.
"It's a pretty good alarm clock putting your car into DAYTONA USA," said Earnhardt Jr., who after the car induction ceremonies returned to the track to win the rain-delayed Hershey's Kisses 300 NASCAR Busch Series race.
Earnhardt Jr. participated in a fan forum along with his crew chief Tony Eury Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s director of motorsports Richie Gilmore.
Speedway President Robin Braig presented Daytona 500 leather jackets to Earnhardt Jr., Eury Sr., Gilmore and Teresa Earnhardt, the CEO and President of Dale Earnhardt Inc. In addition, Gatorade presented the 2004 Daytona 500 champ with a framed photo from the Victory Lane celebration.
Following his induction ceremonies and his Hershey's Kisses 300 victory, Earnhardt Jr. handled media obligations of a Daytona 500 winner in New York City on Tuesday, which included appearances on The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelly and The Late Show with David Letterman.
