"This should be awesome. I mean, Daytona is cool enough just being there anytime, but racing there under the lights is gonna be great. If I had to say that I had a favorite track, this place just might be it because of the history of the track and the high speeds.
"I think the Bud team has done pretty damn well at the night races this year: we won at Richmond, we won the Winston and then we finished fourth and led 175 laps at the Coca-Cola 600. Man, I think we should have NASCAR look at running ALL the races at night!"
BUD Pole qualifying will be seen live on ESPN2 at 8:00 pm Eastern Thursday night. As usual, you can also hear all of the qualifying and race action live on a radio station near you on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) as well as follow live timing and scoring online at www.NASCAR.com.
The prime-time network telecast should be a showcase for NASCAR, but don't miss the CBS pre-race show at 5:00 pm (Eastern) Saturday afternoon to see "Jr's Real World," a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of Dale Jr. This will be the first public glimpse of "Club E," the custom nightclub in the basement of Dale Jr's house. Reporter Ralph Sheheen spent much of a 'typical' day with Junior, following along as Dale Jr. videotaped a promotional video with his father and Richard Petty, and then hung out with his buddies at lunch and at the mall.
The return to Daytona marks the halfway point of the 2000 season, and also the first track where the teams have returned for a second time this year. Earnhardt Jr. has always insisted that the rookie Budweiser team would improve as they begin returning to tracks for the second time, and this race may be a sign of things to come. Dale Jr. was among the top Chevy runners at Daytona in February, and should be even stronger this week due to the aerodynamic changes to the Monte Carlo allowed by NASCAR shortly after the Daytona 500.
