With an eighth place finish at Daytona International Speedway last Saturday night, Dale Earnhardt and the GM Goodwrench Service Plus team have posted seven consecutive top ten finishes adding to their 14 top-10's in the first 17 events.
New Hampshire International Speedway is one of the few tracks that have eluded the GM Goodwrench Service Plus teams list of victories. In the ten NASCAR Winston Cup races held at NHIS, the "Intimidator" has finished in the runner up position twice and has five top-five finishes.
In the ten events that the NASCAR Winston Cup Series has had at NHIS, Dale Earnhardt has completed 2993 of the 3000 possible laps of competition.
The GM Goodwrench Service Plus team feels good about the up coming month of competition on the NASCAR Winston Cup schedule. After New Hampshire they return to Pocono where the No. 3 was strong at the end of last month race, followed by the Brickyard 400 where Earnhardt drove his GM Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo to victory in 1995.
GM Goodwrench Service Plus Crew Chief Kevin Hamlin will be living a dream this Thursday as he takes to Bristol Motor Speedways Drag Strip. Hamlin an avid follower of Drag racing will be driving a pro stock truck.
"This is going to be fun," said Kevin Hamlin. "I'm looking forward to driving one of these trucks. I love drag racing, but I didn't think I would ever get to do it again. Back in Michigan I used to race a bracket car. I kind of got into circle track racing by accident, but I'm still a big drag racing fan. My schedule prevents me from attending a lot of drag races, but wherever we are racing on Sundays we always try to pick up the drag races on the satellite dish in our trailer. I was talking to a friend about the Pro Stock Trucks. I guess I kind of shot my mouth off when I said I could drive one of those things. When I was offered a chance to get in a Pro Stock Truck, I jumped at it." I am lucky that the Brian and his team, the NHRA and the Pro Stock Truck Association have given me the opportunity to drive again. It has been a while since I have been in the seat of a drag car. I may not know what I'm in for, but I'm really going to have fun doing this."
"We've done some good things the first 17 races," claimed Richard Childress "You can always say what if this happened or that happened. We've had a tremendous team effort every step of the way, now we'll begin to turn it up another notch and get Dale into the zone."
