CONCORD, N.C. (Feb. 1, 2001) -- Officially, the jury is still out on the Dodge Intrepid R/T. But, after completing pre-season testing at four race tracks, Melling Racing driver Stacy Compton has a feeling that the verdict will favor the ten NASCAR Winston Cup Series Dodge teams.

"Based on what we've seen at Daytona, Talladega, Las Vegas and Rockingham, I feel like the Dodge Intrepid is going to be a very well-rounded race car," said Compton, driver of the No. 92 Kodiak Dodge. "There's been a lot of hype around Dodge's return to Winston Cup racing, and there has been a lot of hard work from the corporate people and the individual teams. I think I speak for everyone involved in saying that we're eager to close that chapter and get down to racing."

"After the Dodge test at Daytona, we decided that we needed to go to Talladega to continue to work on our speedway program," explained Compton, who is entering his sophomore Winston Cup season. "We were very pleased with how that test went. We also spent some time in Las Vegas earlier in the month and were very happy with the Intrepid on a flat, intermediate-style track. We just got back from Rockingham yesterday, and we weren't quite as good as we had hoped off the truck, but we made large improvements throughout the two-day test and we were pretty happy when we left."

Melling Racing will officially debut it's No. 92 Kodiak Dodge Intrepid on Friday, February 9th, when the NASCAR Winston Cup Series begins practicing for the famed Daytona 500.
