Cole Custer reacts to race-ending Michigan NASCAR Cup wreck

Cole Custer wrecked with Austin Cindric during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan

Cole Custer, who drives the No. 41 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Haas Factory Team, suffered a race-ending wreck during the NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

The 27-year-old driver received a tap from the No. 2 Ford Mustang Dark Horse of Austin Cindric, setting his car loose. Daniel Suarez and Chase Briscoe were sent into a spin after getting collected by this, and Alex Bowman suffered a head-on collision with the wall. While Suarez and Briscoe were able to continue with the race, it was unfortunately the day's end for Bowman and Custer.

Custer explained that he was a passenger in the wreck while speaking to the media.

"Yeah. I mean, once I got hit, you're just hanging onto it, and we're so close. You just hit the guy next to you. But, I still haven't seen a replay of it, I don't exactly know what all transpired to get us into that situation. But it definitely seemed like we all just kind of ran out of room."

"It's really disappointing just from a standpoint of we wanna be on the up end of things with our team right now," he added.

"We wanna be moving on in the right direction during the summertime, and I feel like we are bringing better cars to the racetrack and getting more competitive. But, you know, getting wrecked on days like these definitely sets that back."

When asked how much time he had to react to the wreck, he added, "Not much. I mean, you kind of get hit in the left rear and then you're just hanging on from there, and you're so close to everybody else. We're all three and four wide.
