CHARLOTTE, NC -- CITGO Petroleum Corporation announced today that it has expanded its NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing sponsorship program to include Roush Racing and veteran driver Jeff Burton. Beginning with the Lowe's Motor Speedway Race on October 8, 2000 and for the remainder of the 2000 season and the full 2001 season, CITGO will be the primary sponsor of the No. 99 CITGO SUPERGARD Ford driven by Burton.

Burton has charted an impressive season with three wins at Las Vegas, NV; Daytona, FL; and Loudon, NH, respectively. He has also charted 13 top-5 and 19 top-10 finishes this season in his 28 starts. He is committed to continued success for the remainder of the 2000 season with the new CITGO sponsorship.

"We are really pleased with this new sponsorship with Roush Racing and the possibilities that the future holds with Jeff Burton," stated W. A. DeVore, CITGO Senior Vice President, Supply and Marketing. "The Roush Team sponsorship availability resulted from a unique set of circumstances and we looked at it as an opportunity that we could not pass up. Jeff is certainly a championship contender and we know Roush Racing is hungry for a first championship. We're delighted to have Roush Racing become a part of our CITGO SUPERGARD family."

Burton expressed equal excitement about the newly formed sponsorship. "There is no question that CITGO is a veteran sponsor of this sport," Burton said. "The company is making an unprecedented commitment to our race team by coming on board this late in the season. It shows everyone on our team that we have a new sponsor who believes in us enough to jump in when the year is almost finished. It shows everyone CITGO's involvement and our commitment to CITGO as well.

"My goal as a driver is to improve every race and every year. Obviously, we are in the midst of a championship battle and we're hungry for a championship. I don't think CITGO has ever won a championship so we are going to do our best to put the CITGO SUPERGARD race car in the championship circle, not only this year, but next year, too. We work hard in our program and we work hard every day to make this team better."
