Cassill to Start TRG Motorsports Chevy from 16th row at Chicagoland
Joliet, IL (July 9, 2010) - Landon Cassill qualified the No. 71 TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS on the 16th row for tomorrow's LifeLock.com 400 to be run at Chicagoland Speedway.
Cassill, making his second Sprint Cup Series start and first with TRG Motorsports, started the day quickly posting a very strong top 20 practice time early in the first on track session. The 21-year old Cedar Rapids, Iowa native had an early qualifying draw, taking to the track seventh under still very warm track conditions emphasizing even more how strong the qualifying run was today.
"The car was fast right off of the trailer," Cassill said. "We went 14th fastest early in the first practice. It was a nice morale boost for the team and me to unload and go fast at this track as a rookie. We worked and worked on the car all day. We fought a few things and fixed some of the handling issues and made a great gain from practice to qualifying. We are really proud of that fact. I think if we would have had a later draw in the qualifying order and a little cooler race track our qualifying position would have been much improved. At the beginning of qualifying to the end the track cooled quite a bit. We were at a disadvantage there.
The whole team did a good job today. The communication was good. Dan (Stillman crew chief) is a great guy and we can talk. He is a good communicator and I think we have a lot potential together. TRG Motorsports builds great race cars and they have something great to offer to the right partner. I am proud of the team and all of their hard work."
Kevin Buckler, team owner, likes what he sees in the young Cassill.
"He jumped in the car and got right down to business with the team," Buckler said. "He is working well with Dan and he is showing good speed. Landon brings a fresh tone to the team which is exactly the direction we are headed. He made great progress each practice and did a good job to qualify 32nd with the early draw. We have some big names starting behind us tomorrow night. With our recent changes, the team has a pep in their step and once again fire in our bellies. We want it bad and are looking forward to a great future in the series for us and our partners."
