Joliet, Illinois 7/11/05-Stuart Kirby continued his inaugural season with a 31st finish in the Marathon sponsored #51 Chevy at the USG Sheetrock 400. After starting 32nd and having his share of rookie challenges, Kirby persevered and finally settled down on lap 100. He had a few unscheduled pit stops, which were costly, including a speeding on pit road penalty. Kirby never lost another lap after 100, in fact passing many cars and gaining more experience the longer the race continued.
"I take the blame for getting the car a little tight after last practice which cost us to drop early in the race. After a couple of stops and a few mistakes, the Marathon Chevy was awesome. It seems like I could pass almost anyone in my area."
Team owner, Joe Auer, was impressed with the progress of the team, saying, "We took some great steps this weekend. Bob, Walter, Peter and all the guys certainly did a great job. Any time you don't test and come out of the box fast, you know you're doing something right." The team is working well together now making 2 for 2 in their 2005 season.
Their next race will be at the Brickyard 400 on August 7 and that starts next week, when Competitive Edge Motorsports goes to test in Indianapolis July 18 and 19.
