Tough Restarts Contribute to 23rd-Place Finish For Marlin

JOLIET, Ill. (July 15, 2007)-- Sterling Marlin could never quite get going in the late stages of Sunday's Nextel Cup event at Chicagoland Speedway, resulting in a 23rd-place finish for the No. 14 Waste Management team.

"From about Lap 150 on we couldn't get going on the restarts," said crew chief Slugger Labbe. "It's the same thing we've been fighting for several races this year. Once they (the cars) get strung out, we can really go-- but until then we lose a lot of time."

Marlin started the 267-lap race from the 37th spot and ran as high as 19th at the halfway mark. But four yellow flags in the final 65 laps of the race slowed Marlin's progress around the 1.5-mile track as he struggled on the restarts.

"We just have to keep working on it and figure out a way to get going on new tires," said Marlin. "Once we got out there and got some laps down we could pass people. But all those late-race cautions hurt us."

"Sterling did a nice job out there," offered Labbe. "It wasn't the best result, but we had a good racecar and have more notes to look at to help figure things out. All-in-all, not a terrible day."
