JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S IMPALA SS, QUALIFIED 3RD:

TALK ABOUT YOUR QUALIFYING EFFORT:

"It wasn't too bad. From inside the car, I knew I was too loose. I thought I was going to be around a 90, which wouldn't have been the top-three. So when I came back to the line and heard I was second, I was relieved. I definitely could see where there is speed in the track, we just didn't guess right for the grip level that was out there and make the right adjustments. Still, obviously a great lap for us. We'll take it. Starting up front is important, good pit stall pick.

"I have to say, from being on track today, I forgot how good of a mile and a half race track this is. The transitions in the corners, the banking works. We are going to put on a good show Saturday night. You're going to see racing top to bottom. Just looking at the track you can tell that it has aged more from last summer to this summer. The fall off in the tire, the tire seems soft and it is laying rubber down so we'll move around. I think we will run a real good race."

HOW DO YOU THINK THE CAR WILL RACE EVEN THOUGH PRACTICE MAY OR MAY NOT HAPPEN TOMORROW?

"We switched over last minute to race trim this morning and found...luckily we did, because what we thought was going to work didn't work so well. We took two or three runs to get the car right. I still think we have some room to improve but looking at lap tracker, we were either the best car if not the second best car to the No. 11 looking at lap tracker throughout practice and guys that made long runs. So, we're good. I am glad we took the time because now I'll sleep well knowing that if it does rain out, we've got a good starting point for the race.

"Last year, we had this thing won. I chased down the No. 18 (Kyle Busch) and passed him and got a late race caution, and I just got a terrible restart and got beat. So I have not forgotten that (laughs). That was my mistake; my bad, and won't let that happen again. But once again, we have a great race car. It's very fast. I've got to thank all the guys on the Lowe's team for working so hard. We started in race trim were a little off, and made a lot of good gains through that and got the car close. So I'm very proud of this Lowe's team and am looking forward to it.

"We're solid. We ran a good lap. I wish we could have run a little bit faster but I'm very proud of the effort. We had good practice today. We started a little off and worked through it and got the car close. I'm very excited about race trim. I think this Lowe's Impala is going to be great.

"I think this place is really coming into its own. In practice today, we saw rubber down early in a wide line already. I think we're going to see a great race on Saturday. There's no telling with the weather what's going to happen between tonight and when we race on Saturday. But I'm excited for it. I think we're going to put on a great race."
