"We just haven't been very good since we've been here. We worked on race set-up for most of the first practice. Race set-up, our pace is good. But, in qualifying trim, we were not good. We made one or two attempts, it just wasn't very good. Race trim, I'm okay."
HAS THIS TRACK CHANGED MUCH OVER THE YEARS? "No. It's still pretty much the same. You're going to fight lack of grip on the exit of the corner, and the guys who figure it out will go to the top, and the ones that don't will go to the back."
DAVID GILLILAND -- No. 38 M&M's Ford Fusion (qualified 42nd)
"We were happy with our car in qualifying trim. I just made a mistake down here a little bit, got the left front on the apron and upset the car on the way back to the gas, so that really hurt us a bunch on time. But, I think we'll be okay for the race. Our M&M's Ford Fusion was real good in practice."
CARL EDWARDS -- No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion (qualified 25th)
"I think the track is just a little bit slicker, but our car was just a little better, so I think we were just slightly better than practice. The car is good, but it was so loose in practice, I wanted to be conservative there and not make a mistake because our car is so good in race trim."
DAVID RAGAN -- No. 6 AAA Insurance Ford Fusion (qualified 32nd)
"I wish we would've picked up another couple of tenths. You just don't know, really, how hard to push it. We were pretty loose there in our qualifying trim, and maybe just a tick tight here in qualifying. Wish we could've gotten another run or so in there in practice. The more qualifying attempts that I make, the better I get and the better I can tell Jimmy [Fennig, crew chief] what to do to the car, certainly. I feel like the car's got some good speed, it's just a matter of getting our combination right for taped up, sticker tires for the qualifying run. But, we'll run tomorrow and get it a little better for race runs, and see how it is on Sunday."
IS THIS YOUR FIRST TRIP HERE? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS TRACK? "No, I ran an ARCA race two or three years ago. It's a fun race track. I think they put a patch down in turn one, and it's a little rougher than I remember. It's a great race track, it's fast, and I think it's going to be one of those tracks where clean air means a lot. If you can get out into some clean air, certainly, after the Busch race tomorrow and our Happy Hour, the second and third lanes will come in. Time will tell; I think our car is decent, we just need some more laps."
JAMIE McMURRAY -- No. 26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion (qualified 34th)
WHEN YOU GET BACK INTO THE CAR TO QUALIFY THE WEEK AFTER A VICTORY, IS THERE A DIFFERENT FEELING OR DIFFERENT MINDSET, OR IS ANOTHER QUALIFYING ATTEMPT? "No, it's just another weekend. Once we got to the shop, by, like, Wednesday or Thursday, you're back, you're still excited about last weekend, but for the most part you're just starting all over again."
HOW IS THIS CAR GOING TO BE FOR SUNDAY? "Well, it wasn't very good for practice. None of the Roush cars are very good in practice in qualifying trim -- it looked like Carl was pretty good in race trim, and I think we were pretty average, so we've got a little work to do. But, qualifying was a nightmare."
BILL ELLIOTT -- No. 21 Little Debbie Snack Cakes Ford Fusion (qualified 17th)
ON BEING LOCKED IN ON TIME. "That's a good thing. Man, I tell you what, do this every week and 'whew.' I keep saying that these guys have got a great race team, and you just get yourself out of that top 35 and, man, it's a race every week just to get qualified. We've been fortunate enough that I have had something to fall back on, but, still, you come in knowing you need to get in on time, and then you turn around and now you've got to work tomorrow to try to gain points on the guys for Sunday afternoon, so we'll see."
ARE YOU SEEING GROWTH IN THIS TEAM THAT, PERHAPS, IS NOT MEASURABLE ON A SPEED CHART OR RACE RESULT? "The main thing we've got to do is continue to get better and grow as a team. For ever how long I end up staying here, I have no plans one way or the other this point in time, but the point of this deal is just got to keep working together, and whatever we do we've got to do it as a team and work as a team, and begin to think as a team and those guys have got to get to know me and what I do -- the way I like a race car. And that just takes time to learn. The main part ingredients are there, it's just putting a little fine touches to it is the key to this whole business."
MATT KENSETH -- No. 17 USG Sheetrock/DeWalt Ford Fusion (qualified 10th)
DOES FAST ON FRIDAY TRANSLATE TO FAST ON SUNDAY? "You hope so, but it's just qualifying day. I was pleasantly surprised that the changes we made made the car faster. It was not that good in practice, but that was pretty good right there."
