Mike Skinner, No. 31 Lowe's Chevrolet Monte Carlo:
"Well, I think we're in a learning curve today. We're not as concerned with speed as much as we are making the car drive good and making the car faster. We've got one (car) that's considerably faster than the other. So, we're going to do one more speedway test - I think we're going to go to Talladega - and maybe we can take it back to the shop and maybe mirror them a little closer. That way we can get our Bud Shootout car hopefully as good as our 500 car. The car that we almost won Talladega with, is not our better car. And that's good news."
Steve Park, No. 1 Pennzoil Chevrolet Monte Carlo:
"We're trying to optimize every area of thecar. The motor, the aerodynamics. We haven't raced here before with the new spoiler on the roof and stuff. It's giving us an opportunity to really see what the car really needs -aerodynamically as well as horsepower-wise, and stuff. So right now, we're kinda pleased with what we see. We're not seeing the speeds that what we were hoping to see compared to some of the Fords that have tested already, but we've got some time left to work on it and tune on it and hopefully we can get the speed that we are looking for.
"We worked on both the motor package and the aero package today and did a lot of speed trials if you will. We're just looking for every ounce of speed for qualifying and we'll probably do a little bit more race set-up and drafting on Friday. Today we were looking for as much speed as we could find. I don't know why we're just a little slower (than the Fords). But like I said, it's our first day here and hopefully it's something we can pick-up or correct. Right now, we really don't know. I don't know what the weather was like when they were here testing. There are always so many variables.
"The cars are really handling good. They've stuck to the race track real nice. I think it's going to make for good drafting, really, it's going to make for good drafting and good side-by-side racing with cars that are real stable. Our brand new car is actually the fastest (today), and our other car is right behind it. We ended-up third and fourth with these two cars and that's pretty good. It was a good day for us."
