New, Enhanced Speedway-Operated Tours Set for Bank of America 500 Week Charlotte Motor Speedway is offering new tours that will give race fans an opportunity to experience motorsports like never before. Tours offered during event time include the NASCAR Hall of Fame Tour and Race Shop Tours that visit Roush Fenway Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, JR Motorsports and more. Watch College Football Games Saturday with the Speedway Pigskin Bash
Charlotte Motor Speedway is bringing the excitement of racing and college football together with the Speedway Pigskin Bash presented by Time Warner Cable, ESPN and Showtime. Fans can catch their favorite college football matchups in the afternoon before the start of the Bank of America 500 in the display area located across from Gate 6 next to hospitality village. The tent will feature televisions from Best Buy showing more than 20 college games at one time. There is no charge for fans to stop by and watch their favorite games and food and beverages will be available on-site for purchase.
Bank of America Offers 10 Percent Discount on Merchandise
Fans with Bank of America debit or credit cards will get a special discount at Charlotte Motor Speedway during Bank of America 500 Week. Fans who use their Bank of America cards to purchase merchandise from any Motorsports Authentics or Speedway Motorsports Inc. Properties souvenir stand or trailer at the track will receive 10 percent off their total purchase.
Powerade Play Zone Returns for Bank of America 500 Week
Created for families with young children, the Powerade Play Zone will be located in the Smith Tower south parking lot near the speedway's main entrance during Bank of America 500 Week and features inflatable slides and obstacle courses, face painters, an interactive LEGO Build Zone and a family picnic seating area. In addition, Lug Nut, the world's fastest mascot, will make special appearances Friday and Saturday, along with Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang from Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, N.C. The Charlotte Motor Speedway Coca-Cola Fan Van will also be parked in the Powerade Play Zone where families can play cornhole, compete in NASCAR-simulated racing, rock out with Guitar Hero or try a sample of Powerade Play. The Powerade Play Zone will be open Thursday from 3 to 7:30 p.m.; Friday from 2 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
"Name the World's Largest HD Video Board" Twitter Contest Ends Saturday
Charlotte Motor Speedway announced a partnership with Panasonic to revolutionize the fan experience at sporting events with the creation of the world's largest high-definition video board. Now fans can name the newest addition to the track in the "Name the World's Largest HD Video Board" Contest. Fans should follow Charlotte Motor Speedway on Twitter at "@CLTMotorSpdwy" and tweet their name suggestion. The winning entry will receive a VIP Clubhouse ticket package to the 2011 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race with pre-race pit and driver intro passes. The contest ends on Saturday at noon EDT.
Traffic Information Available on 91.1 FM
Race fans will be able to tune into 91.1 FM for up-to-date traffic information following Saturday's Bank of America 500. Charlotte Motor Speedway will broadcast traffic exit updates on that frequency to inform fans of any traffic concerns around the speedway.
Gluten-Free Foods on Concession Menu
For fans coming to the races who adhere to a gluten-free diet, Levy Restaurants is offering several gluten-free items at their concession stands. Foods available for purchase include Red Bridge Beer, nachos, hot dogs and hamburgers without the bun, gummy and snack bars, popcorn, soda and water.
Capture The Race Experience with Charlotte Motor Speedway Fan Photos
Fans can commemorate their visit to the Mecca of Motorsports during Bank of America 500 Week with a Charlotte Motor Speedway Fan Photo. Speedway photographers will take fan photos throughout the week, which will be uploaded to an online gallery. Fans can then visit the Charlotte Motor Speedway Photo Store to choose from a variety of photo border templates and products to help them remember their race experience. Sinkhole Repair Completed in Time for Bank of America 500
Crews took just over a week to fill the 35-foot-deep sinkhole that developed in the infield at Charlotte Motor Speedway recently due to heavy rains. Crews replaced 105 feet of deteriorated pipe and concrete was mixed around the new pipe joints for an additional sealant. The new pipes were also encased in gravel for reinforcement. Much of the old landfill dirt was replaced and the hole above the pipe was packed with fresh dirt. A gravel base was reinstalled and asphalt was repoured. Approximately 200,000 cubic yards of gravel and 400,000 cubic yards of new dirt was used to repair the sinkhole.
Pre-Race Show to Honor Hall of Fame Inductees
During the pre-race show for the Bank of America 500 on Saturday, Charlotte Motor Speedway will recognize the 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductees, who will serve as the grand marshals for the only night race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. The newest Hall of Fame class will be officially announced on Wednesday at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and fans will have a chance to meet the inductees at the Hall at 10:15 a.m. before the Bank of America 500 on Saturday. The pre-race show will also feature a surprise stunt, an invocation by legendary NFL coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs and the singing of the national anthem by country music artist Danielle Peck.
High-Profile Drivers Still Looking for First Wins at Charlotte
Race time at Charlotte Motor Speedway brings fond memories of a first-ever Sprint Cup Series win for some NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, including Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Bobby Labonte, Jamie McMurray, Casey Mears and David Reutimann. However, a number of high-profile drivers are still chasing that elusive Charlotte victory. In May, Kurt Busch earned his first-ever win at the legendary superspeedway, but Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. have never won a points race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Each is hoping his luck will change this Saturday night in the Bank of America 500.
Newman Looking to Add to Charlotte Motor Speedway Pole Count
Ryan Newman captured his ninth pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway this May for the Coca-Cola 600 and leads all active NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers in poles at the Mecca of Motorsports with nine. He's looking to add to that count on Thursday during Bojangles' Pole Night qualifying for Saturday's Bank of America 500. Jimmie Johnson was the pole winner for the 2009 Bank of America 500 with a speed of 192.376 and a time of 28.070. The track qualifying record at Charlotte Motor Speedway was set by Elliott Sadler for the 2005 Bank of America 500 with a speed of 193.216 mph, and a time of 27.948 seconds. Thirty-seven different drivers have posted poles at Charlotte Motor Speedway, led by David Pearson with 14.
