THE MIC'S ALWAYS ON
Our year-end quote book, a compilation of the best and worst from the mouth of Red Bull Racing Team, made a recruiting visit Saturday night to Charlotte Motor Speedway. It sounded like a few could play ball, and they may make the team when final cuts roll around in December.
"We got a good car. Long way to go. We'll make it up." - Spotter Tim Fedewa
TRANSLATION: Words of encouragement after Scott Speed, who had climbed to 15th after starting 21st, got busted speeding exiting the pits during the second of nine caution periods. His No. 82 Red Bull Toyota was sent to the tail end of the longest line and restarted 28th.
"Our car is great, guys. It's so much fun passing cars. Thank you." - Speed
TRANSLATION: Driver giving Crew and Co. some love for a stout piece.
"My front tires are already &*#@ off." - Reed Sorenson
TRANSLATION: We encourage our drivers to be detailed in relaying information back to the team.
"We got a chance tonight, guys. Yes! It is quite enjoyable to drive. Freaking awesome." - Speed
TRANSLATION: He worked his way to 12th inside 50 laps to go, took two tires late and finished 19th. Notice Speed's use of "quite enjoyable," which is Formula One's version of "pretty fun." Then he ends it with the old American standby "freaking awesome."
"We were really tight during the last run. It felt like it was between when we were our best and our worst. Good effort all weekend, though. We unloaded fast and kept it up all weekend." Sorenson
TRANSLATION: Sorenson qualified seventh, ended final practice second on the board and finished 18th in the race. Not a bad weekend at home. Sorenson now has five top-20 finishes in the No. 83 Red Bull Toyota.
