"We ran a seventy-something in practice and it cooled off, so we certainly thought we would be better than what we ran. I'm not really sure what happened. We've been off the pace since getting here, but we're even further off than we expected. They made a couple of changes for qualifying and that obviously didn't help any, but we didn't have a whole lot to lose by trying."
MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DEWALT Power Tools Taurus -
"It was OK. The car felt good, but we just haven't had a lot of speed since we've been here. Everybody is going to pick up about the same time and hopefully that will get us somewhere halfway respectable and possibly in the top 25. If we can do that, it would be good. The last two weeks we've taken provisionals when things didn't go too good, so, hopefully, that will get us in the top 25."
IS THIS A CASE WHERE YOU JUST LOOK AHEAD AND NOT THINK ABOUT THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS? "Yeah, it doesn't do any good to worry about it because it's already done. You can't change anything that's already done, so we'll just go and do the best we can from here on forward. This is a great race track for us. We had a real great shot at winning the race in the spring, but it got shortened a little bit because of the rain and we ran second. I'm looking forward to Saturday night. Hopefully we can get up front and have a chance to win the thing."
DALE JARRETT - No. 88 UPS Taurus -
"We picked up after making some changes and adjustments. We're getting our program together. You can't expect to go from down here to the top right now, but we've made a lot of gains. I'm really happy. We've got the cars now to where I can go out and have fun and be aggressive. That makes racing a lot more fun."
MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus -
"We're not real proud of where we're gonna be on the grid, but we're very proud of that effort and very proud of this car. It's gonna be a good race car. We haven't been qualifying very good anyway and, actually, it's gonna be a reasonable qualifying effort. That was a tremendous effort by this team. I love this race car and it will race better than it qualified. We've got to make faster stuff. We've got to figure out how to do that, but, in the meantime, we've got to race what we've got and that's what Ben Leslie and this whole Viagra team is doing. They're trying to do the best they can with what we have and try to figure out where that next step is to get some speed."
JEFF BURTON - No. 99 CITGO Taurus -
"It's been a struggle. The stuff does drive good in qualifying trim, but we can't go fast. Across the board it's something we're all struggling with it. I don't know what it is. We work real hard and we try real hard, but it just isn't stuck. We don't make enough grip on all four tires. You get the balance pretty good, but we're slow. We can't seem to find speed anywhere. It's been a long day, but I really believe that in race trim - when we pull the tape off of it - we'll be competitive. I really believe that."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 Rubbermaid Taurus -
"We picked up quite a bit of time and when you do that, you put a car in a different dimension. What I mean by that is it was real low to the ground, so we were dragging some things we hadn't touched before. That upset the car a little bit and made it a bit displeasing to drive, but we got through it."
TODD BODINE - No. 54 National Guard Taurus -
"This is a brand new car and it's got a great body on it. The fab shop put their heads together and did it the way they felt it needed to be done and it showed up tonight. Last week, we had a new body. Gary (Cogswell) has turned this team around. We're trying to be steadfast and hold to what plans we've made and go down the road we've chosen to go down and it's working. We may not be a frontrunner every week, but we're gonna be a top 15 car every week the rest of the year. That's gonna propel us into next year and that's what we're looking for. We're working to get the team back in order and this is just another start. It's another top 10 qualifying run and these guys deserve it because they've worked hard. I'm happy for them because it's about time the got something for what they've done."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus -
"That's really good. It's a great starting spot for Saturday's night race. That's not as fast as we really wanted to be, but it's a great starting spot. The guys did a great job. We've got some awesome horsepower and, hopefully, we'll go get 'em on Saturday. This car drives very well, so let's see if we can get 'em. I think we're racing good, we just need some luck."
