"Our Dodge Dealers Dodge ran great tonight. We just couldn't catch a break. I got a little loose, and I got a little tight. We just couldn't ever get the balance exactly right. It seems like track position was everything, but I'm proud of my guys. We might could have short stopped, but when you're running that good it's hard to make that gamble. At least we could see them. The guys have given me some real good equipment the past few weeks, and I'm really happy where we are right now. The program has really come together. I ran hard from the start. The car would give up one way, and then it would give up the other way. I thought I had a pretty good deal there when I got ahead of Tony, but then Tony beat me out of the pits. It seems like track position and aero is the whole key, but Tony was really good on the short runs. We reeled him back in at the end, but it's hard to do anything with these guys. You've just got to concentrate on what's going on and hopefully you adjust right for the last run. We've run well every week. Our finishes haven't reflected it, but this team has run well. If we can just catch a few breaks... We were right there tonight, but we just need to keep chipping away at it."
RUSTY WALLACE (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Intrepid)
"I got nailed twice on pit road penalties all night long, and we had some bad stops. I don't know what the deal was on the pit road penalties. Every time I'd come out, I'd pull out and these guys who were leaving their pits would accelerate and try to pass me on the inside of me. They'd see me, and they'd nail me. Maybe the first time I was speeding, but the second time there's no way. I had a top five car or a top seven easy. I just lost it on the pit stops and the pit road penalties."
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid)
"The car was loose tonight. The Coors Light Dodge crew worked really hard tonight making adjustments when they needed to be made. We didn't qualify as well as we would have liked, but we worked our way through the field, and we're happy with our top-15 finish."
JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid)
"We're running hard. We've got good teams and good cars and our Dodges are running real good right now. It's a team effort and everybody is doing their job. It seems like the tire deal has been weird, but I'm not going to complain about it because I'd get in trouble like Tony Stewart did. Every set was different tonight, and it hasn't been like that in awhile. We started out a little loose, plus I didn't qualify good. We just needed a little more time. If we'd had about 500 more laps we would have been there. If it had been a thousand-mile race we would have been in good shape."
JAMIE McMURRAY (No. 42 Havoline Dodge Intrepid) - Top Rookie, Finished 7th
"I'm not near as tired as I expected to be. When you have two good handling cars, I don't think it's as bad as it would be if you were in two ill-handling cars. Both cars seemed to drive well. I was a little nervous after the Busch race. I lied to everybody. I was a little tired when it was over with. I went back to my motorhome and laid down, and I felt pretty rested before the (Cup) race. I drank some pedialyte to get myself back hydrated. I had good food instead of greasy food, so I feel pretty good.
"We really thought this was going to be our best shot to win a race. We tested here a few weeks ago and had what we felt was the best test the 42 team had all year long. We left here with the feeling we could win the race. When Happy Hour started yesterday the car just didn't drive as well as it did in the test. We made some changes, and I think running the Busch race today helped a little bit. We learned some stuff in the Busch race that we applied to my Cup car. We've been lucky we made the right adjustments from Happy Hour to the race.
"We won the race last year with pit strategy and got out front. We were really good when we weren't behind anyone. I really think if we could have got the track position and got out front that maybe we could stay there. We just never could get a happy balance on the car, and I was a little scared to be too aggressive on the adjustments, so Donnie (crew chief Wingo) and I were careful not to go too far. Maybe we should have been a little more aggressive, but the racetrack seemed to change. Usually it just gets tight. It seemed like it would get tight and then get loose at the end of a run. I was a little confused on what to do to the car because the racetrack kept changing."
