MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DEWALT Power Tools Taurus (Finished 2nd)
"You know, I'm happy finishing second but I'm certainly not happy calling the race at 9:30 at night. It's the biggest race of the year and it's not even raining, so I hope the rain hits here pretty hard, pretty soon so all the fans will feel like they're not cheated and so will the rest of us that aren't in first - feel like they did the right thing. But right now it's not raining and it's 9:30 at night. I sure wish we would have waited it out a little bit and had a shot at it. I'm real thankful and real grateful to finish second and to be with such a great race team, but the racer in me still wanted to race. I think, for sure, we had one of the three best cars out there and was counting on another 130 laps to try to have a chance at it." MATT KENSETH -
ARE YOU STUNNED THEY MADE SUCH A QUICK DECISION?
"Yeah, pretty much. It just quit raining and all the fans were cheering. We've had these showers all day. I'm not educated enough about the weather. Maybe it's gonna pour and have a major storm here in a minute and I'll sound stupid for saying this, but it totally quit raining. We've been having these showers all day where it's been getting the track wet and it dries back up and it dries pretty quick tonight, so I wish they would have given it a little bit longer, but that's out of my control. I'll be happy with second and happy with the good, solid night we had."
CAN YOU COMMENT ON THE POINTS SITUATION?
"I'm happy we gained all the points back we lost over the last four weeks. I'm happy about that, obviously. I'm happy about our consistent run. We had decent pit stops. I thought we did a good job calling the race. I'm happy about all that. The racer in me still wants to race and have a shot at trying to win the race. I'd be happy right now if we could race 130 more laps and I'd finish fourth than to finish second and call it off early. But you can't control the weather, so I feel real good about where we're at. I feel real good about our run tonight. I think we did everything right and had ourselves in good position at the end."
YOU WERE KEEPING YOUR CREW CALM WHEN THE 21 SLID.
"We were a lap down, but we were in fourth so, basically, when all that happens you'll come in and pit, or maybe, we wouldn't have had to pit because we just pitted under green, but you always start on the tail end of the lead lap. So whoever stayed out on the track has got to pit, so you're back on the lead lap and I knew there was gonna be a whole wad of cars between me and Bobby Labonte, the leader, so I wasn't happy being as far behind as we were, but I felt good about getting our lap back. Usually in that situation when you have seven or eight cars between you and the leader it's a good opportunity to get your lap back. It usually gets real jumbled up in there and you have a good shot at a caution. Robbie was mad because we just pitted and the caution came out. You're always mad when that happens, but the only thing I was questioning was to make sure we were running to the end of our fuel tank, but they said we were pretty much out of gas and we had to pit. That's one of those things in the race that's out of your control. They tried to wait as long as they could to throw the caution, but when there's a stopped car they had to throw it sooner or later and there's just three cars that didn't make their pit stops yet."
