CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 15, 2001) - Bill Elliott will bring his No. 9 Dodge Dealers Intrepid R/T to Lowe's Motor Speedway for Dodge's inaugural run in The Winston this weekend, making his 16th appearance in the event. Rookie Casey Atwood, in the No. 19 Dodge Dealers Intrepid R/T, will run in the companion event, The Winston Open, with hopes of qualifying for the marquee race.

Elliott, who won The Winston in 1986 the only time it was run at Atlanta Motor Speedway, has finished in the top 10 some 12 times. He won the first segment of The 2000 Winston, but went on to finish eighth. "I've got mixed emotions about The Winston," said Elliott. "It's not bad if you're in a position to run good. I won the first segment there last year. But if you can't win, what's the point. Sixth, seventh or 10th is irrelevant.

"Someone asked me what it was like to run the last 10 laps for all the money," he added. "I told him he ought to try running the last 10 laps at Daytona for a whole lot more money. I'll probably just work toward being in a good position for the last 10 laps. The best thing about The Winston is that it gives you a chance to get tuned up for the next week."

Both Elliott and Atwood tested at Lowe's Motor Speedway last week in preparation for The Winston and the Coca Cola 600.

"Testing out there was long and tough," noted Elliott. "It seemed to get harder and harder. We took the Texas car and a new car. We'll probably run the new car in The Winston and use it as a guinea pig. We were trying a lot of new stuff, but I'll probably let Casey stick with the new stuff and I'll go with what I know."
