CASEY ATWOOD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) NOTE: Atwood was the fastest qualifying Raybestos Rookie of the Year driver for the second straight week and 10th time this year. "My car was just too loose. Any time qualifying, you're on the edge, but we got a little loose. We're happy with that. We thought we had a shot at the pole, but everybody is picking up. We got loose going into turn three and that might have cost us the pole. It's another good starting spot, and I hope we have a good race. "We knew we were going to pick up a little bit in qualifying. The cloud cover came over. That helps this track a lot. After Kenny ran that lap, we thought we had a shot at it, but we went into turn three and got loose. It got sideways on me. I felt like we had a shot until that happened. Hopefully we can have another good race now after getting the pole last week. "We made a little shock change after practice. After that we were pretty close. We got on line and saw if we were going to get the sun or cloud cover and made some air pressure changes. We didn't change much because we were pretty close this morning. "The last time we ran this car we finished ninth at Dover. "We've got to see how Happy Hour goes. This track is hard on tires and equipment. We've just got to be there at the end and save your car all day. If the tires are bad you're going to be slipping and sliding. You've just got to be patient. "It was disappointing (last week at Phoenix). I think we had a three-second lead after Rusty blew his (tire). We had a pretty good lead on Jeff (Burton). Nobody knows how it would have played out, but I thought we had a really good shot at winning the race. To have a tire go down and take us out of contention was pretty upsetting. We were up front and never got past third-place all day. We were pretty happy with it. "Last week we had a great car qualifying. We had a lot of good qualifying efforts the second half of the season and just weren't able to have a good race with it. We had a lot of problems. We were third at Kansas and got in a wreck. We were third at Indy and ran into somebody and blew our radiator out. We've got to get a little luck, too. We've had a lot of bad luck this year. I think I'm getting a lot better in the race to be patient and keep it up front. We've just got to get a little luck with it and gain experience. "I don't know what's going to happen right now. I haven't been told a lot about what's going on. I really don't want to comment on a lot of it. Right now, my biggest concern is this race this weekend and trying to win this race. After this, it'll be Homestead. I think I'll have a great car there. I got one of my best finishes there last year. We'll finish out this year and try to win every race we can. I think I've got a good shot here Sunday. I think my best shot of the year will be at Homestead. "We've tested at Homestead. We figured that would be our track to go get a win. We tested down there and it's a car we took to Pocono a couple of times and ran in the top five with it. We qualified fifth with it. Homestead is another flat big track, so we're going to take it back."
