World Financial Group to Sponsor Carl Edwards and the No. 99 Ford at Atlanta
CONCORD, N.C. (September 28, 2004) - Roush Racing announced today that World Financial Group, Inc. (WFG) will sponsor Carl Edwards and the No. 99 Roush Racing Ford at the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in October. World Financial Group will appear as the primary sponsor on the No. 99 Ford for the Halloween race weekend at a track Edwards looks forward to racing at.
"I really like Atlanta," said Edwards. "It's a fast track where you don't lift off the gas much and I like that a lot. The No. 99 team has been running well and we want to continue that at Atlanta for WFG. To have World Financial Group on the No. 99 Ford is really neat. Their hard work and dedication makes them one of the best in their industry and to have that kind of quality sponsor behind you is just awesome."
This will be the first time World Financial Group has appeared as a primary sponsor on a NEXTEL Cup car, an opportunity that the company's president and CEO welcomes. "World Financial Group is excited to sponsor the No. 99 Roush Racing Ford driven by Carl Edwards in the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway," said Tim Stonehocker, WFG President and CEO. "The decision to team up with Roush Racing was an easy one.
WFG shares much in common with Roush Racing - a commitment to excellence, a passion for performance and a drive to be the best in our respective industries. We are proud to be associated with one of today's premier racing teams."
The No. 99 team is planning to test at Atlanta Motor Speedway in preparation for the Atlanta race weekend. Earlier this year Edwards raced the No. 99 Superchips F-150 to a seventh place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway after qualifying third. With three top-10 finishes in just six NEXTEL Cup starts, Edwards looks to be on the fast track to chalking up another strong finish at one of the circuit's fastest tracks.
