CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY'S WEST COAST PREMIER IN FEBRUARY AND LABOR DAY WEEKEND RACING HIGHLIGHT 2008 NASCAR SCHEDULE
Debut of the Car of Tomorrow Just One of Many Exciting Changes at California Speedway Next Year
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA -- The 2008 West Coast Premier of NASCAR will take place at California Speedway over the weekend of February 22-24 and racing will return for Labor Day weekend's biggest party from August 29-31, NASCAR announced today.
"When NASCAR returns in 2008, the series will have a new name and a new car, but those changes are just the tip of the iceberg for fans coming to California Speedway," said Speedway President Gillian Zucker. "We'll be making more and more improvements to the facility to provide our loyal fans with the best motorsports experience anywhere."
Among the enhancements to the track include the installation of escalators in three key sections of the facility, expanded misting areas in the grandstands and suite terraces, a renovated scoreboard and the installation of high definition LCD monitors throughout the track.
Scheduled to be completed in time for the 2008 Labor Day weekend, fans can look forward to the convenience of three sets of escalators to help them travel from the ground to the concourse areas. Escalators will be placed adjacent to gates in Sections 11-21, Sections 50-60 and Sections 71-81.
To better help fans beat the Labor Day weekend heat, California Speedway will complete the second phase of a mister installation, increasing the current level of misting areas by an additional 200%. With the completion of that phase in time for September, 2008, California Speedway will have increased available misting areas by over 800% from September, 2006.
Another feature that fans will be sure to notice will be a completely overhauled scoreboard. The track's current scoreboard will be fitted with new panels featuring the latest Daktronics LED technology. This enhancement will be completed by February.
Over 500 televisions throughout the facility will be replaced with High-Definition LCD monitors providing fans with unparalleled viewing of Speedway events. Additional improvements will be announced throughout the coming year.
