Mooresville, NC -- Butch Mock Motorsports and Jon Wolfe, crew chief for the No. 75 Remington Arms Ford have mutually decided to part company.
According to Butch Mock, the announcement comes as a result of the team's lack of performance so far this season.
"Chemistry is one of the key elements in any racing effort," said Mock. "For some reason, chemistry was just not there. Jon and I have mutually decided we need a change in order for us both to move forward. Every team out here will tell you that if the chemistry is not there, it will not work."
In a press conference announcing the merger of Butch Mock Motorsports with Galaxy Enterprises, Mock was very adamant on making changes necessary to make the No. 75 car a successful competitor in NASCAR Winston Cup racing.
"Jon and I had decided to make the change before last week," said Mock. "I didn't want this announcement to shed any negative light on our merger announcement. I feel that this decision will be a positive one for both parties concerned. Jon wants to win races as much as I want to win races. He is an intelligent person and I know he will succeed in this business. I wish him all the best."
The crew chief duties will be a team effort starting this weekend in Watkins Glen. Troy Selberg will become part of the road crew for at least the next couple of weeks to assist the crew in becoming more organized.
"Some of our problems this year have been the result of our own doing," said Mock. "Troy has done an excellent job in organizing the race shop, so he will travel with us to help tighten up some loose ends. We will not make a decision on a new crew chief until we believe we have found the right one. Ted works well with my team. I believe together, as a whole, we can make good calls."
In addition to this personnel announcement, Mock hired shock specialist Greg Ely prior to the Brickyard 400 last week. Ely lives in Salisbury, North Carolina and has previously worked for Cale Yarborough Racing, Richard Childress Racing, and most recently, Bill Elliott Racing.
