EMPORIA, Va. (September 5, 2000) -- The Sadler Brothers, Elliott and Hermie, will work overtime this weekend at Richmond International Raceway (RIR). Elliott is the only driver to compete in all three NASCAR sanctioned races at RIR while brother Hermie will race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Busch Series races.
Elliott and Hermie Sadleris desire to be in a racecar will be showcased this weekend. Most fans, especially the ones watching TV and listening to the radio, are only exposed to the one hour qualifying sessions and three hour races. But behind the scenes, one race equals numerous hours of preparation on and off the track. Elliott will spend eleven hours on the track testing, preparing and practicing for all three events, excluding the three qualifying sessions and races.
"I can't think of another place I'd rather race three races in three consecutive nights," stated Elliott Sadler of nearby Emporia, Virginia. "I have been given the opportunity to run all three races so I'm going to do it. The fans in Virginia have always been great supporters of me and Hermie and I am looking forward to making this weekend one to remember."
Hermie, Elliott's older brother agrees. "We only live an hour from Richmond. Our friends, family and fans are centralized around here so it made sense for us to race as much as possible. I know it will be a good race and who knows, the Sadler brothers could have a one-two finish."
"I know it is going to be a lot of work but it will be worth it," stated Elliott. "I wouldn't do this anywhere else but Richmond because this is home. I think there will be a lot of fans up there from Emporia and surrounding areas. I just want to go out and put on a good show for them. It's great to have sponsors like CITGO, Hot Tamales and Team Ford Racing. They are responsible for making this weekend possible. I hope it is a good time for everybody involved."
Team News: Elliott Sadleris CITGO Ford has a special Virginia Tech paint scheme this weekend in Richmond. The Virginia heritage, which is common among the driver, owner, university and track sparked interest for the special promotion. A portion of souvenir sales and Sadleris portion of the winnings will be given to VT's General Scholarship Fund.
