FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 3, 2000) - Fans will once again be able to watch two days of exciting qualifying action for free, courtesy of Sprint, this year's sponsor for NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series pole days at Texas Motor Speedway.
Race fans can get a free $10 general admission ticket good for both qualifying days by visiting participating Radio Shack or Sprint PCS stores throughout Texas. The ticket, which features Adam and Kyle with the #45 Sprint Chevy, is good for NASCAR Busch Series qualifying Thursday, March 30 and NASCAR Winston Cup qualifying Friday, March 31. Sprint is also mailing the commemorative tickets to all their Texas customers.
"This is our fourth year of working with a sponsor to provide our fans free qualifying tickets," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "We are constantly looking for ways to better serve our fans and Sprint has come on board to help us do that."
Tens of thousands of race fans will be in attendance at Sprint Pole Days to watch drivers battle it out to make the starting field for the Saturday, April 1 Texas 300 Busch race and the Sunday, April 2 DIRECTV 500 Winston Cup event.
Sprint is also revved up for the Winston Cup qualifying debut of Adam Petty, driver of the #45 Sprint Chevrolet Monte Carlo. If Petty qualifies for the DIRECTV 500, it will be the first time he will race against his father, Kyle Petty.
"We have a lot of Sprint customers and employees in the state of Texas and there are a lot of race fans there too," said Robert Harvin, VP of PR and Brand Management for Sprint Long Distance. "That's why the sponsorship makes so much sense. We want to give everybody a chance to come see Adam on this historic weekend.
"We are extremely proud of our relationship with Adam and his family. This is a big weekend for the Pettys and their fans and we want everyone to know we are behind them one-hundred percent."
Petty agrees that it will be a big weekend for him and his family. While qualifying for a Winston Cup race presents a new challenge for the full-time Busch Series driver, it's a challenge he's ready to tackle.
"It will not be easy to qualify for the race, but I'm ready to try. My family is behind me, and it's nice to know Sprint is too. Taking the green flag for qualifying, with everything else Sprint is planning in the market, will make this week even more exciting," said Petty.
To commemorate the special event, Kyle and Adam will appear together at various locations in Dallas-Fort Worth to meet fans and sign autographs on Tuesday, March 28th and Wednesday, March 29th.
On Thursday, March 30, speedway gates open at 10 a.m. with Busch practice beginning at 10:30 a.m. and qualifying at 2:45 p.m. On Friday, March 31, gates will open at 10:00 a.m. with alternating practices for Busch and Winston Cup. Final Busch qualifying for the Texas 300 begins at 2:05 p.m. with Winston Cup qualifying for the DIRECTV 500 starting at 3:30 p.m. While at the race, fans can also stop by the special Sprint Communications Center, a display featuring the #45 Show Car Simulator and sample a variety of Sprint products and services.
