Roush Racing Reflects on Weekend Sweep at the California Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. -- For only the second time in the organization's history, Roush Racing swept all three NASCAR events at a single racetrack on the same weekend. The only previous sweep by Roush Racing occurred in October of 2001 at the one-mile Phoenix International Raceway when Greg Biffle won the Craftsman Truck Series and Busch Series events, while Jeff Burton won the Cup Series event.

Mark Martin kicked off the winning weekend in the No. 6 Scotts Ford F-150, by winning the racetickets.com 200 Craftsman Truck Series event. On Saturday, Greg Biffle, in the No. 16 AmeriQuest Ford Fusion, won the Busch Series' Stater Bros. 300. Then, on Sunday, Matt Kenseth and the No. 17 DEWALT Ford Fusion team led the final 33 laps to win the Auto Club 500 NEXTEL Cup Series race and complete the weekend sweep.

Owner, Jack Roush

"This is really a great weekend to be able to have three of our different drivers win all three races, especially that truck race on Friday night. That's the one that we couldn't get close to last year based on where our truck was, but Ford gave us a new F-150 package and Mark Martin is leading the charge on that deal. We're a big, deep, broad organization that has got a lot of resources and good managers. I look to Robbie (Reiser) as being senior among all the crew chiefs. He leads cadence on them and helps with the staffing of not only the 17 team, but of all the teams. We're organized to be a form-follows-function company."

"It was a great weekend for Roush Racing and it says a lot about Jack and the type of organization that he has put together, that we were able to go out and when all three races and we actually had multiple cars that could have won in those races as well. Hopefully we'll be able to use that and go on to Las Vegas next weekend and be competitive across the board out there as well."

"It was great to be a part of the Roush sweep in California. We were able to take Ameriquest to victory lane for the first time, which made the Busch Series win even better. We probably could have had the Cup victory for Roush in the National Guard car too but it just wasn't our day. I think Roush has had two sweep weekends and I was lucky enough to be a part of both of them."

"I don't know, but I think Roush Racing definitely got its swagger back at California. You really can't read much into results at restrictor plate racing, but at California, this is the type of track we're going to be racing on for most of the season. If this is a sign for things to come, it could be another great year for Roush. It's a little early to tell anything for sure, but we have the people in place, not just with the 17 DEWALT team, but with the entire organization to make another run like last season."

No. 26 Crown Royal/Irwin Industrial Tools Ford Fusion

"I told them [Roush teammates] as soon as the race was over I was like, 'You guys have just really fast race cars here.' I whined the entire race that my car was too tight and we were still running in the top five, top eight most of the day. I'm just very, very excited. I watch all the NASCAR programs in the morning and they all talk about the Roush dominance and that's cool that I get to be a part of that this year. They actually won every division this weekend at the race track, so it's just an awesome racing organization. Jack has hired really good people and the Roush-Yates engines are amazing. I'm just fortunate to be a part of this. I have a lot of faith in Jimmy [Fennig] and the pit crew and the engine program and the bodies - everything over here. They're at the top of their game and I'm very fortunate to be able to join in at this time."

Todd Kluever
No. 06 3M Ford Fusion

"Roush had a fantastic weekend in California and I'm sure that won't be the last one this season. I just hope I can be part of the winning sweep the next time it happens."

Danny O'Quinn Jr.
No. 50 Transamerica Ford Fusion

"It just goes to show you what a great organization Jack Roush has built, that he could put one of his cars in victory lane three times in one weekend."

Erik Darnell
No. 99 Woolrich Ford F-150

"Pulling off the sweep at Fontana was pretty cool. I know that Roush has always run well out there, so I expected that we'd be pretty competitive. I guess this is the first time since 2001 that they've swept a weekend, so it's something that obviously doesn't happen often. I couldn't be happier for Jack and everyone at Roush, they work really hard to put the best equipment out there."

David Ragan
No. 6 Scotts Ford F-150

"Sweeping a weekend is so hard to do, but it's great that we were the ones able to pull it off. Mark was awesome on Friday, Greg and Carl showed the way for most of the race on Saturday, and Sunday looked like it could have been any of the Roush car's race to win. It says something about this team and the people that work here. I hope I can contribute to the next sweep driving the No. 6 truck."
