TESTING CONTINUES IN PREPARATION FOR EXCITING WEEKEND AT RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY MAY 13-14
May 3, 2005-Richmond International Raceway hosted one of the biggest days of testing in track history today as 19 cars tested their rides in preparation for the Chevy American Revolution 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and FUNAI 250 NASCAR Busch Series races, set for May 13-14 "under the lights" at America's Premier Short Track.
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers Rusty Wallace, Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne, Ricky Rudd, Sterling Marlin, Scott Riggs, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Green and Hermie Sadler turned laps on the .75-mile oval. Additionally, Elliott Sadler, Carl Edwards, Dave Blaney, Reed Sorenson, Tim Fedewa, Clint Bowyer, Jon Wood, Jerry Robertson and Aaron Fike tested their NASCAR Busch Series cars.
NASCAR veteran Rusty Wallace used a full day of testing to get his car ready for the Chevy American Revolution 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race.
"I feel like I have the car to beat here," said Wallace, who has six career victories at Richmond International Raceway. "This is one of my favorite racetracks. I like the way it's designed and I've won a lot of races here."
Virginia native Elliott Sadler will enter his first NASCAR Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway since 2000. He will run double-duty in both the FUNAI 250 NASCAR Busch Series and Chevy American Revolution 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races.
"I'm glad we're running at Richmond because I'll be home in front of a lot of my fans, friends, and family," said Sadler. "This place is very special to me. Anywhere you've been going since you were a kid and you get to go back and race-it means a lot to you."
Fellow Virginian Jeff Burton will look to break into the Top 10 with a good finish at Richmond International Raceway.
"Richmond has the best racing of anywhere we go, in my opinion," said Jeff Burton, a three-time race winner at Richmond International Raceway. "I think the racing is better on 3/4-mile racetracks. They just put on better races."
For those who are looking for a great NASCAR weekend, just ask NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and NASCAR Busch Series driver Carl Edwards for his opinion.
"As a fan, before I got into the sport, this was my favorite place to watch a race," said Edwards, who will run double-duty at Richmond International Raceway. "A night race at Richmond was just the coolest thing ever."
Although the May 14 Chevy American Revolution 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event is sold out, tickets are still available for the NASCAR Busch Series FUNAI 250 "under the lights" at Richmond International Raceway Friday, May 13. Fans can come out and watch some of their favorite NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers challenge the NASCAR Busch Series regulars on America's Premier Short Track. Reserved seats are only $45 and general admission tickets are $35. Children 12 and under are admitted free in general admission sections with a ticketed adult.
