Harvick Looking To Run For The Win In Two Races At Bristol
HARVICK ON BRISTOL: "We're looking forward to going back to Bristol. I'd have to say it's my favorite track. We've always run well there and had an opportunity to win every race we've run there. Anything can reach out and grab you. We were leading the Cup race with 60 laps to go and we got a flat tire so, I feel like it owes us."
"We had a fender rub in the Cup race and the tire went down. We had to come in and then we went all the way back to 43rd and we made it all the way back to the lead. That's a circumstance that is desperate times because you're worried about getting lapped. It depends on where you start the race as to what kind of approach you take. If you start in the back you have to be worried about the leaders. If you start in the middle of the pack, you worry about keeping all the fenders on the car and if you start in the front, you have to worry about lapped traffic and staying up front."
MARCH '01 BUSCH RACE: Harvick led a number of laps including the first 69 during the first Busch race at Bristol this season. He led again from laps 149-165, but he was black-flagged by NASCAR for passing on the wrong side and was assessed a penalty. Remarkably, Harvick was able to climb all the way back to seventh before the checkered flag flew on lap 250. He led a total of 86 laps.
LAST YEAR'S AUGUST BUSCH RACE: Harvick dominated last year's race by leading 241 of the 250 laps at Bristol last August to claim the second of his three victories in Busch last season. He hopes for a similar performance this year.
BUSCH POINTS: With a second place finish last weekend at Michigan in the Busch race, Harvick has built his points lead to 236 points over second place Jason Keller. Greg Biffle was second in points, but fell to third with a 43rd at Michigan.
CUP POINTS: Last week's 41st place finish at Michigan in the Winston Cup race pushed Harvick back to 10th in points, but he remains optimistic. He is only 127 points behind fifth place Tony Stewart. <pre> Harvick's Bristol Cup Stats Date Start Finish Laps Laps Led Status Money Points 3/25/01 3rd 24th 500/500 135 Running $90,182 96
