Notes: All three NASCAR series will compete on the same tires at Charlotte. . . this is the first time teams have used this combination of tires in 2003 . . . Winston Cup and Busch Series teams have used this left-side code with different right-sides earlier this season at both Texas (D-6364) and California (D-6354) . . . while this combination will be used by Cup teams later this season at both Kansas and Charlotte, these left-sides will also be run at Michigan (twice) and Chicago, while the right-sides will be run at Dover (twice) . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Charlotte . . . the air pressure in the inner liners must be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
Goodyear Quote -- Mark Keto, Lead Engineer, Stock Car Tire Development:
"This new right side tire, which was introduced with very positive results at Dover last September, has been designed to run cooler and with improved consistency. Teams that participated in the recent open test sessions at Charlotte were very pleased with the tire performance in both hot, midday and cool, night conditions."
