The two most prestigious series in NASCAR make their first western trip of the 2001 racing season when the Winston Cup Series and Busch Series go to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 2-4.

** The tires for the Las Vegas NASCAR events will be the same as those used in the second race of the season at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, NC. The tire used on the left side (D6340) and the one used on the right (D6342) saw their first action at The Rock.

** While the tires used at Las Vegas will be the same as those used at Rockingham, they will be different from the tires used at Las Vegas last year. "It has some significant differences," said Tony Freund, Lead Engineer, Stock Car Racing of the new tire. "It is a slightly different-sized tire on both sides of the car. It is slightly taller. The construction is very similar. The tread compound is a little tougher in terms of wear."

** Goodyear will provide approximately 2,440 tires for the Winston Cup Series and about 1,250 for the Busch Series for the Las Vegas event.

** Jeff Burton looms as the driver to beat in both the UAW Daimler Chrysler 400 for the Winston Cup teams and the Sam's Town 300 for the Busch Series competitors. Burton won both races at Las Vegas in 2000 and won the Winston Cup race at LVMS in 1999.

** Mark Martin won the first Winston Cup race on the 1.5-mile oval in 1998 and still holds the record for a 400-mile race at the track. He averaged 146.554 mph on his way to victory. The qualifying record was set last season by Ricky Rudd, who averaged 172.563 mph when he toured the D-shaped oval last year.

** Burton won the Busch Series race last season. Other winners include Martin (1999), Jimmy Spencer (1998) and Jeff Green (1997).

** A total of four NASCAR series have raced on the 1.5-mile superspeedway in Las Vegas. Of the four, the Winston Cup Series was the last to make its debut. Can you name the other three? They are the NASCAR Busch Series, the NASCAR Winston West Series and the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring. Goodyear has been a part of every one of those races.
