NASCAR's decision to increase the fine against team owner James Finch by $25,000 has made teams sit up and take notice. The terminology used in the statement ups the responsibility of the teams to present a legal car for inspection.
"The onus is on the entrant to present a car that is legal at all times. The onus is not on NASCAR to detect every rules violation at every inspection. Parts or equipment on the racecar are not deemed to have been authorized or approved by reason of having passed through inspection at any time or any number of times unobserved or undetected," statement from NASCAR in their press release.
So far, it's working. There has nary been one infraction in pre-race inspection at Talladega Superspeedway.
Gordon to use DEI engine: Robby Gordon and the No. 7 Chevy team will use a DEI engine for qualifying and the race. The team felt they were low on horsepower and needed something more.
High winds expected Friday night: A warning from the National Weather Service in Birmingham has predicted 30 mph winds during the day Friday and some gusts up to 70 mph late that afternoon until midnight.
