Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI), based in Mooresville, N.C., turns its full attention to the Winston Cup Series in 2001, fielding three teams out of its 250,000-square foot complex.

Dale Earnhardt has driven himself into legend status, winning 75 Winston Cup races and a record-tying seven NASCAR Winston Cup Championships. In recent years Earnhardt has built an equally impressive resume as a car owner.

DEI has been successful in every NASCAR division since racing full-time in 1995. In the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, DEI dominated with driver Ron Hornaday, Jr. winning a single-team record 25 races and two series championships. In 1996 Hornaday drove the NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet to DEI's first championship, winning four races and completing all but two laps the entire season. Hornaday added another championship in 1998 with six wins, 16 top fives, and 22 top 10s.

A restructuring of the Busch Series team paid tremendous dividends in 1997 when Steve Park took over the driving duties. Park scored three wins, two poles, Rookie of the Year honors and finished third in the standings in his only full Busch Series season. The following seasons, DEI ruled the division with Dale Earnhardt Jr. clicking off 13 wins en route to consecutive series championships in 1998 and 1999. Hornaday took over the Busch Series ride in 2000 keeping NAPA as the primary sponsor and continued the winning tradition, scoring victories at Nazareth and Indianapolis Raceway Park. In all, DEI has 39 wins and 107 top-fives since first competing in the Busch Series in 1982.

Year 2000 marked the breakout season for DEI in NASCAR's premier division. In only its third full season competing on the Winston Cup Level, DEI scored four wins and four poles. Dale Earnhardt Jr. shocked everyone with his outstanding win at Texas Motor Speedway, marking DEI's first Winston Cup win in Dale Jr.'s 12th start. Dale Jr. went on to thrilling wins at Richmond and The Winston all-star event. He also scored poles at Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 and Michigan.

Steve Park notched his first Winston Cup win at Watkins Glen in another thriller and had an impressive run of top fives at the end of the 2000 season. Park claimed DEI's first Winston Cup pole position at Bristol Motor Speedway in April and set the fast time again in November at the Pennzoil 400 in Homestead, Fla.

This season, Michael Waltrip and NAPA join the DEI Winston Cup fold and gives the young organization three solid teams capable of winning every week.
