NASCAR, Anheuser-Busch strengthen deals

It was a natural combination. Budweiser, the world's best selling beer, and NASCAR, which provides the closest, most competitive auto racing in the world, have united.

Beginning in 1998, Budweiser will be The Official Beer of NASCAR. Anheuser-Busch has been involved with NASCAR for nearly two decades, since it began its involvement through its Busch brand in 1978.

For almost 20 years, NASCAR drivers have been competing for the same pole position award and toasting their qualifying runs with the same brand of beer. But in 1998 that's all going to change. Starting with the Daytona 500, drivers will be aiming for the Bud Pole Award.

And before they shoot for the first Bud Pole, many drivers will start their seasons with a bang in the Bud Shootout At Daytona on Feb. 8. The event formerly known as the Busch Clash will have a new format in 1998.
