Schrader's Thoughts On The Sirius Satellite Radio 400...
"I really like the trip to Michigan, and I'm excited about the race. It's a smooth track and it has a wide racing groove. It's also a track where strategy is very important. The teams have to pay careful attention to fuel mileage at Michigan because races have been won and lost there on just that.
"The team worked hard last week at Pocono, and we got a 16th-place finish. We really want to improve on that. We've had a really hard time making it to the finish of the races this season because we've had weird things happen which ruin an otherwise good finish. I'd like to think that we've turned that around now, and that we can build on last weekend's performance."
"M&M's"® Racing At Michigan International Speedway...
* Ken Schrader will make a little side trip before heading to Brooklyn, Mich., this weekend. On Tuesday, he will race at Quincy Speedway in Quincy, Ill. Then on Wednesday, Schrader will bring pal Dale Jarrett to I-55 Raceway - the track that Schrader co-promotes in Pevely, Mo. Jarrett will be on-hand to sign autographs and meet fans while Schrader plans to race. This will be the first of two trips for Jarrett to Pevely this summer. Jarrett will race with Schrader and other Winston Cup drivers at the 3/8-mile dirt track on July 31st for the "M&M's"® Night Of Stars charity event.
* The "M&M's"® Racing Team will unload car No. 14 - the same car they ran at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and California Speedway earlier this season - at Michigan this weekend.
"The car had some speed to it," said crew chief Newt Moore. "We just didn't have any luck. We had a cut tire and a blown motor in those two races. It's a fast car though, and Schrader really liked it so we thought we'd give it another chance."
* The suspense is almost over. In just one week on June 19th, "M&M's"® will unveil its newest color in the famous candy mix - pink, purple or aqua. The "M&M's"® Racing Team and Ken Schrader are especially excited about the announcement. That's when the team will find out what color car Schrader will pilot (and uniform he will wear) at Bristol in August. So is Schrader nervous about what color might take the top award?
"To be honest, I'm just ready to know what the new color is," he said. "I know my family had their favorite, and I know there were a lot of folks in the garage voting for pink, so I have no idea which will win. I'd say it's going to be pretty close."
The winning color will be announced via web cast on www.mms.com on June 19 at 8 p.m.
