While Waltrip ran consistently in the top-five, the NAPA car was involved in an accident causing caution number four of a total of 20 cautions. The wreck involved Waltrip's Dale Earnhardt, Inc. teammate Jeff Green and veteran Rusty Wallace.

"I was on the inside of Jeff [Green] and I thought I was in deep enough that he would back off of the position," Waltrip described. "He didn't back down and my front left tire got caught on the apron, which caused me to get sideways and spin out. Rusty was trying to avoid me, but as I slid down the racetrack he hit me. It was a hard hit for both of us. I hate it for Rusty and for our whole team. I guess Jeff was doing his job, but it's a shame to have a setback like this. We'll go win Darlington and this won't seem near as important."

"The NAPA team has left the negative consequences of Saturday night at Bristol," said crew chief Richard Slugger Labbe. "We know the type of car Michael needs in Darlington and that is where our concentration will be the rest of the week."

The NAPA team took a hit in the points this week falling from fifth to eighth. On a positive note, Waltrip is only 100 points out of fifth and heads to Darlington where the team finished fifth in the March race.
