Aims Higher for Bristol Night Race
Statesville, N.C. (August 17, 2010) - The No. 34 Long John Silver's team makes its second trip of the season to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway this week, and Travis Kvapil expects his Ford Fusion to be even more competitive than it was the first time. The team earned a top-25 finish at the March race at the half-mile oval and looks to apply lessons learned to earn an even better finish in Saturday's Irwin Tools Night Race.
Kvapil will be making his ninth start at Bristol in Sprint Cup competition. He has a best finish of seventh in this race in 2005. Kvapil also has one win at the track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Comments from Long John Silver's Racing team driver Travis Kvapil on Bristol Motor Speedway:
"Bristol is just a really fun racetrack. Everybody loves going there. The Bristol night race is just a really cool atmosphere. The place is always packed, you've got 43 cars beatin' and bangin' under the lights and it just makes for some really fun racing. It's just a neat place and a great event.
"We ran OK there the first race. Our set-ups have really come a long way since the beginning of the year. I feel like we've really learned a lot with our racecars and we're taking better cars to the tracks now. So, we're looking to keep improving on that even more.
"Now that we've got more of a notebook established and we've got a lot more races under our belt, we're able to roll off the truck in a much better starting position than we did earlier in the year. So we're not starting at Square One when we get to a track, spending all of practice taking big swings trying to get the set-up right. We're pretty close right off the bat, so we're spending our practice time fine-tuning and seeing what might make us just a little bit better.
"Bristol is one of my favorites, for sure. I think we can go there and definitely do better than in the spring race and get a good, solid top-20 or top-15 finish. Hoping for a good night for the Long John Silver's Ford. You never know how it's going to end but you know it'll be pretty wild."
