"I just spun it out."
IS THIS CAR FIXABLE? "They're always fixable. It depends on what NASCAR lets us do. If they want us to use the other one, we will. If they want us to bang this one out, we'll do that."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus
"It's a little slicker right now than what we went through in practice. My car was a lot tighter than what it was, but that's a decent lap. I don't think that's gonna be a pole or anything, but if that gets in the top 10 I'll be very, very happy. Going early is kind of tough, but I'm proud of my guys. We've got a brand new car and we think it's gonna race really well. It's just fun to be back here at Bristol. There are a lot of great fans here. It's a great place to race and we're looking forward to a good day on Sunday."
MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus
"I was just really loose on that set of tires. We didn't make any changes on the car, but we just couldn't go on that set."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 National Guard/Subway Taurus
"The guys have done a great job on this National Guard car. The car seems to be a little faster than the driver right now. I'm having a little trouble over there in three and four, but it was a really good lap. The car is probably capable of being on the pole speed, but we're excited. We've got a top five starting spot and a good pit selection and that's what really counts at Bristol."
HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO BE UP FRONT? "It's really important. I think that time will get us a top seven spot or so depending on what the sun does here, but it's a big factor in pit selection for Sunday. I'm excited. These guys have given me a really, really good car to come here with and our season has really turned around. We've had some really good runs and I'm really excited about it."
JEFF BURTON - No. 99 Roush Racing Taurus
"We had a good practice. All morning long we were eighth to 12th fastest. We put our mock qualifying tires on and went slower on new tires than we could run on old tires, and the air pressure is built up totally different. So we scuffed some tires to make our best guess and it does the same thing. We're running good in practice two weeks in a row, but when we lay our lap down the air pressure is built up different and the car drives different. I don't know what to do. We've had the best practice we've had here in years today in the first part, and then when we put our new tires on we don't go any better and most everybody else picks up. We're missing something. It's very frustrating because we don't know what's going on. The positive side is we've had two good practices in qualifying trim the last two weeks, we just haven't laid it down when it counts."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 Sharpie/IRWIN Taurus
"It went OK. We're gonna survive from that qualifying effort. We needed to run faster on these new tires. When we put on our tires in practice we struggled with fresh tires. We did our best laps today on 18-lap old tires and that's unusual for the Sharpie team because we're ones that when we bolt tires on we go fast and then we burn them off. So maybe this is an indication of how our setup in the past is gonna adapt to this new tire. Maybe we're gonna be the good one at the end of a run, whereas we used to be average everywhere. That's what has helped us get to victory lane here in the past. Qualifying didn't quite go as planned today, but we're gonna end up with a decent spot."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus
"That's about the first time all year we've picked up in qualifying. We unloaded off the pace more than we needed to, but the guys kept working and working. We were at the bottom of the speed chart in practice until about 45 minutes to go and they hit on something. It's been good ever since. We just need a little bit more traction off the corner and we would have been even better yet."
WHAT ABOUT THE RACE? "We came up here and tested. We would have liked to have had a full day, but we only got four hours because of weather. We worked on race setup the entire time and had one setup that seems to be pretty good. We're gonna start right there and I think we'll race well."
MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DEWALT Tools Taurus
"It was OK. We were just too tight. In practice we weren't very good, but we made it a little bit better at the end. I ran so loose qualifying practice that we were worried about spinning the tires. We just had the car a little bit too tight and that cost us some time, but, overall, it's alright."
