"That wasn't a very good deal there. We've got a great car here with Office Depot. The car was really fast in practice. I guess I got a little too used to that Busch car. I pulled out there thinking about the lap and not thinking about warming up my tires as much as I should have. I don't think there was anything on the track. It was just my mistake. It's unbelievable. This is not good."
KURT BUSCH - No. 97 IRWIN/Sharpie Taurus (Qualified 26th)
"Qualifying at Bristol has been trouble for me, but it's just a matter of trying to be there at the end. We have the Autograph For Education car and it's a special paint scheme. We'll see what we get. It's one of those impound days where I haven't figured out this new impound system yet."
HERMIE SADLER - No. 66 Peak Fitness Taurus (Qualified 35th)
"It was a good lap for us. That's as hard as I've ever driven. These guys have really hung in there through some adversity. There have been some trying times at the shop and for me at home, but these guys have really kept their heads together and stayed cool by not pointing fingers. They kept working and I hope this is the start of some good things to come for our team. We deserve it. We've been working hard for it."
MATT KENSETH - No. 17 DeWalt Taurus (Qualified 25th)
"That's about what we practiced, so that was good. We didn't run real good in race trim, but our qualifying lap was pretty fast in practice. I felt like this was probably a little slower, so hopefully it'll be better for the race. We've been working on trying to get the car turning and we made a lot of changes in between practice and qualifying and still ran a pretty decent lap."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 National Guard/Subway Taurus (Qualified 10th)
"I still haven't caught my breath. I haven't been so scared in my life. That's a great race car and we didn't do a qualifying run so I really didn't know what to expect. I have a really, really great car. It's fast. It's unfortunate that happened. We had a car to be on the pole here and I guess I screwed it up, I don't know. We didn't do a qualifying run so I didn't know what to expect."
AT WHAT POINT ON THAT SECOND LAP DID YOU STOP GOING FOR IT AND GO INTO SAVE MODE? "I was flat on the floor and in the early part of that corner (turn two) it was all about being on the front row right there. She got out from under me early and normally you don't save them from that point. It was just a miracle. I thank God that I've still got the car."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Qualified 1st)
"That's a great run. If they can beat us they can have it, but I love this place so much. There's so much energy here. The fans are so vocal and so loud and you just get so pumped up for qualifying. I'm so proud of everybody on the M&M's car. We know we've got one hot-rod for Sunday. We didn't know it was gonna run that fast for qualifying, but we've got a good car. I can't wait for Sunday."
YOU KNOCKED OFF RUSTY. "Yeah, but Rusty has a lot of poles here and a lot of wins here and, to be honest with you, I've learned a lot from watching Rusty Wallace run around this race track. I've watched a lot of film and I try to emulate him as much as I can here."
DID THE LAP SURPRISE YOU? "No, we were pretty good in practice. Todd made a few adjustments and said we were gonna be alright. We're bad to the bone in race trim. It's the best car I've ever had here in race trim. I didn't know we could run that fast. I told him that maybe we could run a low teen, but to come out here and run as fast as we did, that's just a great testament to these guys. They worked their butt of and I'm glad we'll be somewhere near the front."
DALE JARRETT - No. 88 UPS Taurus (Qualified 21st)
"We made quite a few changes with our car based off what we saw with the Busch car, which was our intention here - to have them close and see if we could do that. Coming to get the green, I don't know if I didn't get the fronts heated up or what I did, but I just about had to get out of the gas before I hit the wall. We ran faster than what we did in practice, so I guess it's somewhat of a success. I guess the fast time didn't pick up that much, but a lot of people got in there. The car drives pretty decent. It'll be interesting to see how our changes work out. We made our changes for the race and hopefully they're gonna be better."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Genuine Parts Taurus (Qualified 20th)
"I'm just really proud of these guys. We didn't test here and this new tire is quite a bit different than what we've had in the past. We got here and were like the slowest car here for about the first hour of practice and Fatback and all these guys kept working on it. I'm more impressed about coming from the slowest to a top five or top 10 start here. I'm really happy with it and just happy with the job everybody did."
IS IT A CONFIDENCE BOOST? "We haven't qualified well. We did at Daytona, but we've been concentrating on race setups. We had a top five for Atlanta and just didn't get it. We had a freak thing happen to us and knocked us out late in the race, but we actually had cars like that at Vegas and California, but never got a chance to show everybody because we got wrecked on lap four or five. We had to come from the back and we couldn't show anybody anything. I've been impressed with the way the car has run all year, but we just haven't been able to show everybody the results."
DO YOU FEEL PRESSURE TO GET INTO THE TOP 35? "I know how important it's gonna be. It's definitely important to try to crack into that top 35. You're going to a track like Martinsville where I generally qualify well at, but I would hate to think I had to qualify well. There's a big difference."
