HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., Tuesday, March 23, 2004 -- The following are Food City 500 pre-race notes and quotes for Bobby Labonte, driver of the No. 18 Wellbutrin XL (bupropion HCl) Chevrolet for Joe Gibbs Racing.
FOOD CITY 500 PRE-RACE NOTES:
Labonte will attempt to start his 23rd race at Bristol Motor Speedway. He has never won at the .533 of a mile oval.
Labonte has eight top-10 finishes at Bristol, and has finished in the top-10 in four of his last five races, including a third-place finish in last year's spring race. He finished 27th in the 2003 fall race.
Labonte is eighth in points, coming off a season-best second-place finish at Darlington.
Wellbutrin XL will serve as the primary sponsor on the No. 18 Chevrolet at Bristol.
The primary car for the Food City 500 will be No. 71, the car Labonte used at both Bristol races and both Dover races in 2003. In addition to finishing third in the car in last year's Bristol spring race, he also finished third in the car at the Dover spring race.
The back-up car is No. 66, the car Labonte used at both Darlington races and both races at North Carolina Speedway. Labonte finished seventh in the fall Darlington race and eighth in the fall race at North Carolina Speedway.
FOOD CITY 500 PRE-RACE QUOTE:
BOBBY LABONTE (No. 18 Wellbutrin XL Chevrolet; 2000 NASCAR Champion):
"Bristol hasn't been all that bad. I think we had more of a struggle last fall than we did in the springtime. I think we finished pretty good. It can be like Darlington. A couple of guys (at Darlington) looked like they weren't having any fun, and Bristol can be the same thing. I feel like going into Bristol is going to be no different than any other time. We have to go in and do the best we can. Coming off a good run is obviously going to help out. So, we're looking forward to that."
