Bodine repurchases No. 11 team

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 6, 1999) The new year is already providing some satisfaction for the No. 11 Paychex Ford team and owner Brett Bodine. Bodine and his wife Diane have secured private funding to repurchase the percentage of the team owned by Andy Evans since November of 1997. "It's great to have 100 percent control of the business that Diane and I had dreamed of owning for a long period of time," Bodine said. "Due to the failure of our 1997 sponsorship commitment that nearly put us in ruins, we were forced to take Andy Evans on as a partner. "During the time of our partnership, Andy and I were in disagreement of how the team should be managed. He was constantly trying to take control of the team and direct the team in a way that I thought would be detrimental. This was a huge distraction during the 1998 season that certainly hurt the team's on-track performance. With that behind us, we can now concentrate on doing the things within the team to make us more competitive." Paychex has re-signed for the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season as the primary sponsor of the No. 11 Ford team -- which is now known as Brett Bodine Racing. Even though the team was in turmoil over the situation with Evans, the crew finished 25th in the 1998 series standings. Paychex recognized the potential of the team and driver and then committed for the 1999 season. With help from Paychex and associate sponsors, Brett Bodine Racing is looking for a more successful season this year. "We are proud to be associated with Paychex and wish we could have provided a second half of the 1998 season as strong as the first half," Bodine said. "With them re-signing early, however, it has allowed us to upgrade the team with new personnel and new equipment which will allow us a better start in '98." Source: NASCAR Online
