CENTENNIAL, Colo.- (Aug. 24, 2004) - CENTRIX Financial, LLC, the Official Auto Finance Company of NASCAR, announced it will be making its second appearance in this year's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series schedule when it sponsors Boris Said and the No. 36 Chevrolet of MB2 Motorsports in the Sept. 5 Pop Secret 500 at California Speedway.
CENTRIX, Said and MB2 first came together at Infineon Raceway in June and produced a strong sixth-place result at the Sonoma, Calif. road course.
"We are very proud to be taking this next step in our relationship with MB2 and Boris," said Robert E. Sutton, chairman and chief executive officer of CENTRIX. "We knew we would be putting Boris back behind the wheel of our car, we just needed to figure out the best track to do it on. California Speedway gives us a chance to build our brand in one of our most important markets while allowing Boris to show-off the skills he developed in the Craftsman Truck Series and at Daytona in the Budweiser Shootout."
Racing on ovals is not new for Said, who is known worldwide as one of the most exciting and accomplished road racers, having just recently become the first American to ever win the German 4-hour GT Endurance race at the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit.
Said, of Carlsbad, Calif., competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1997, 1998 and part of 1999. His truck record includes one win, two poles, six top fives and nine top 10s. One of his top 10s was an eighth-place finish at California Speedway in 1998.
Said has also competed in two oval races in the Cup series -- at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 1999 and in this year's invitation-only Bud Shootout at Daytona International Speedway where he placed 10th.
The colorful racer is among a handful of drivers who have captured poles in all three NASCAR series - Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck.
"CENTRIX is the type of sponsor I love working with, they understand the sport and know what it takes to build a winning effort," explained Said. "We had a good run at Infineon with a car that wasn't quite the best it could have been. We have been testing, and right now, I think we have the team and car needed for a run at the top.
"Getting back on an oval is really exciting. And it's always special to be part of the MB2 team. It's a top-notch operation with plenty of potential."
CENTRIX and MB2 began their relationship in April, shortly after the financial services company announced its position as the Official Auto Finance Company of NASCAR. In addition to the sponsorship of Said's car at Sonoma and Fontana, CENTRIX serves as an associate sponsor on the No. 01 U.S. Army Chevrolet of Joe Nemechek and the No. 10 Valvoline Chevrolet of Scott Riggs.
