Martinsville, Va - Bobby Labonte won his first Winston Cup race on a short track in Sunday's Virginia 500. Labonte had previously won at Martinsville in a Busch Series event.

This gives the 2000 Winston Cup Champion 19 career wins. "We've been inching on it. So, thank goodness this little ole Pontiac did good today." Labonte said in victory lane.

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Labonte, took the white and caution flags at the same time after Bobby Hamilton, Kyle Petty, and other drivers tangled with just two laps remaining.

Pole sitter Jeff Gordon had numerous problems throughout the day. Varying from a flat tire, to a penalty, to broken power steering. He ended the race 23rd.

Gordon's Hendrick Motorsports teammate Terry Labonte led his first race since October of 2000. He ran a strong race and finished sixth.

Rounding out the top five were: Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, Dale Jarrett, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
