Most of you already know that Tony Stewart won the Sprint Cup last year then, before the celebratory hangover had fully dissipated, fired his crew chief Darian Grubb. In football terms, this would be akin to the New York Giants dumping Tom Coughlin after the miraculous playoff run that ended with the Superbowl title.
Well, it did happen in NASCAR. Grubb was replaced by Steve Addington. Hey, when you are the boss, you can do whatever you want. Yes, whatever, whenever.
Grubb then joined the #11 team of Joe Gibbs Racing. The racer for that car is Denny Hamlin. Yes, the racer that won in Phoenix last weekend. Yes, the current points leader outpacing Stewart (in 12th place) by 37 points after two races. Yes, the #11 car had issues last week, which Grubb's team adroitly resolved. Meanwhile, Tony Stewart's #14 car was stranded at the pit in Phoenix and wrecked at Daytona. Could this be a NASCAR version of biblical drama unfolding?
So which is it?
b) Divine intervention?
I say all of the above. I would very much like to hear your thoughts on this (scroll to the bottom of this page).
