Biffle leads opening Talladega practice

Greg Biffle ran the fastest lap in first practice with a speed of 201.189 mph at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday.

Biffle established a top time of 47.597-seconds on the fifth of 22 laps in the No. 16 Roush Fenway Ford. He was also the top car in the Best 15-Lap Consecutive Average 197.48 mph.

Danica Patrick (200.624 mph), Justin Allgaier (200.574 mph), Clint Bowyer (200.393 mph) and Kasey Kahne (200.372mph) posted the top-five speeds.

AJ Allmendinger, Trevor Bayne, Casey Mears, David Ragan and Paul Menard rounded out the top 10 quickest laps.

Allmendinger also posted the Best five-Lap Consecutive Average of 197.82 mph, followed by Biffle (198.43mph) Allgaier (198.30mph), Bayne (198.03 mph) and Tony Stewart (197.97 mph).

Allgaier had the Best 10-Lap Consecutive Average of 197.98 mph followed Biffle, Stewart, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson.

Forty-five drivers took part in the initial practice for the 500. Matt Kenseth’s 35 laps were the most run by any competitor.

At the 25-minute mark, some drivers worked on single-car runs — with the exception of the Team Penske Fords. Last weekend’s winner Joey Logano led the trio followed by Brad Keselowski and Ryan Blaney for eight laps.
