NOTES AND QUOTES
REFLECTING ON DARLINGTON: Johnny Benson claimed eighth place, his third top-10 finish in his Cheerios Ford Taurus, at Darlington Raceway. "I'm real happy with the way the day went. We always want to do better, but we've been consistent. I couldn't be any happier. The whole day was decent for us. We did what we could with traffic. It was a brand new car and without as much track time or no testing on it, the car did really good. The Fords are running well. When asked about the spoiler difference, Benson commented, "No doubt about it. In traffic it was terrible. That's what the rules are and that's what you've got to deal with."
SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST: After an eighth place finish in his Cheerios Ford Taurus at Darlington, Benson heads to Bristol, Tenn., for the Food City 500. He will be driving the same car as last weekend. Since it brought him a top-10 finish last weekend, maybe a top-five finish awaits him next. How does Benson feel about this tough Bristol track? "It is a fast and bumpy track," Benson said. "It is a tough track and you just never know what to expect." Since this is challenging track, qualifying is crucial. "Track position is key, as it is with every race, but especially at Bristol since you have a better chance of wrecking if you have to move up through the field. Steve Hmiel and the guys put forth a great qualifying effort, they really work hard to get the car in a state of perfection." As the Cheerios team focuses on the high-banked half-mile bullring, "survival of the fittest" will be the motto of the weekend.
