KASEY KAHNE QUOTES
"Atlanta is definitely one of my favorite tracks. It's fast, wide and has several grooves for the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. It's important to watch what other drivers are doing as well as try different lines yourself. The key is finding the fastest way around the track that last 100 miles. For me, that's been at the top of the track most of the time.
"If I can make it work outside, I feel like I can carry more speed. I always ran high when I was racing sprint cars, so I just feel comfortable there and when the car is working, I can carry more momentum off the corner."
"We have a better handle on the Dodge Charger this year. Last year, the car was so sensitive to adjustments. All the work the Evernham team did in the off season is paying off. Through the first three races, we've been able to adjust on the car and continue to make it better each stop. That's a tribute to the team and all the work everyone did during the off season."
"I learned a lot last year. I have a better understanding of the car and its limits. I'm communicating what the car is doing more effectively. I've learned to stay within the limits of what the car can do and wait for the team to make it better on the next pit stop. The experience has made me a better driver."
KASEY KAHNE AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Kasey Kahne has competed in four races at Atlanta Motor Speedway, scoring top-five finishes in his first three events. He finished 35th in last fall's race at the speedway after getting caught up in a wreck, ending his top-five streak.
In the four races he's run at Atlanta, Kahne has collected $482,625. Kahne's average start at the speedway is 13.8 and his average finish is 12. His best start at Atlanta came last spring when he started fifth and his best finish came in his first race at the track in the spring of 2004 when he finished third.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Last year heading into the spring race at Atlanta Motor Speedway Kahne ranked 38th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings, a far cry from his current third-place standing. So far in 2006, Kahne has scored top-15 finishes in the first three races.
KAHNE CONTINUING TO CLIMB Kahne's fourth-place finish last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway moved him up to third in the point standings. This is the highest Kahne has ever ranked in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings. He is only 85 points behind current leader Jimmie Johnson and 33 points behind second place.
Kahne's third-place status is the best-ever points standing for any Evernham Motorsports driver.
