HAMPTON, Ga. (March 10, 2002) - The Target Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Jimmy Spencer finished 26th in the MBNA America 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Spencer is currently 27th in NASCAR Winston Cup championship points; the Target Team moved up three spots from last weekend.

The Target Dodge started inside the third row in fifth position for the 325-lap event. As the Target Dodge dropped out of the top-10 on lap 35, Spencer radioed in that the car was tight-handling. Spencer continued to fall back thorough the pack for the first half of the race. During pit stops, Team Target made track bar and air pressure adjustments to attempt to loosen the car. Unfortunately, the car needed more adjustments than what the team could provide during pit stops in order to contend in the top-10.

To add to the bad luck, on lap 139, Spencer's Target Dodge collided with the No. 18 of Bobby Labonte on pit road, spinning Labonte and creating right front fender damage on the Target Dodge. The team had to come in for an additional pit stop in order to assess and repair the damage. Spencer and Team Target took the checkered flag in 26th place.

"It was a disappointing day," Spencer said. "The collision in the pits killed us. I think we had a pretty good car, but we'll never know for sure. We'll have to pick it up for next weekend."

Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 at Darlington Raceway on March 17, 2002.
