HAMPTON, Ga. - Greg Sacks spent two years building his race team. Now he plans to spend about 29 seconds getting it up to .speed.
Sacks and Who's Your Daddy, Inc. will kick off their three-year relationship at this Sunday's Golden Corral 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Qualifying is Friday night at 7 p.m., and it will take less than 29 seconds to make the starting lineup.
"They say good things are worth the wait," Sacks said. "We've been very careful, very meticulous in the way we've built this race team, and working with Who's Your Daddy has been an important part of that project. It was tempting to get out there before we were ready, but we decided to make sure we were ready.
Who's Your Daddy's newly-distributed "King of Energy" drinks will sponsor the Sacks Motorsports Ford in 20 Nextel Cup Series races this year and for every race in the next two years.
"We've waited along time for the right partner to come along and stage our ascent in Nextel Cup; Who's Your Daddy defines who we are, what we're about and the winning attitude needed to overcome all," Sacks said. "Being in the business for more than 20 years has taught me a lot, and I plan to use my experience and know how on building a winning team with a winning brand."
Sacks won the 1985 Firecracker 400 at the Daytona International Speedway. He also has a victory in the Busch Series at the Talladega Superspeedway.
"We are extremely proud to be associated with Greg Sacks, who we believe to be one of the most experienced drivers on the circuit today," said Edon Moyal, CEO of Who's Your Daddy, Inc. "We feel Greg will work harder than anyone else on the track, based on his desire and commitment to the sport of NASCAR. Fans of Sacks over the years can take comfort in knowing that the entire Who's Your Daddy team is behind him and all the way.
"We are looking forward to a long-term relationship with Sacks Motorsports, Inc - building a dominant race program and establishing a major presence in the NASCAR Nation."
Sacks picked the Atlanta Motor Speedway because it's one of the fastest racetracks on the circuit. He set the track record there in 1994 when it was a 1.5-mile oval. The raceway has since been re-designed to be a 1.54-mile, D-shaped speedway.
"Atlanta is a driver's racetrack," Sacks said. "You can run the high groove or the low groove there. You can really hang the car out. It's a matter of finding your comfort zone, and for me that always means going fast."
