"I'm kicking myself a huge amount. I don't know what it looked like, but that felt like a really good lap all the way up to turn three. I tried just too hard in turn three and it was loose. I knew I should have been a little more conservative, but it was either all or nothing there and I'm just glad we didn't wreck. Man, I wanted to be on the pole for this race."
HOW MUCH OF A CRAP SHOOT IS IT FOR SUNDAY COMPARED TO TONIGHT? "This is the crap shoot, right here for qualifying. We practiced in sixty degree weather and we feel pretty good about our race setup, but it's hard to jump in that thing and go out there and wail it off in the corner wide open and hope everything works out with the temperature being so much cooler. Our Scotts car was alright. It was just a little bit too free and I tried a little too hard. Otherwise, I think we could have been on the pole."
WHAT HAPPENED? "I'm the hardest on myself. I'm harder than anyone could ever be and I put a lot of pressure on myself, and I know that lap was a good one going into turn three and then I got greedy. It was loose and I knew it was loose, but I still tried to hold it wide open through there and it didn't work out. Therefore, we're not on the pole. It's so frustrating, but the Scotts guys did a great job. We've got a great Charter car. We've got a great Scotts car. I'm just ready to race now. I can't stand this being that close."
YOU'VE GOT A GOOD STARTING SPOT FOR SUNDAY. "Yeah, I guess the big picture is always good. I would liked to have gone to bed tonight with a perfect lap. I don't care if we're fast or slow. As long as I do my job right, I'm OK and I didn't do my job right, so I'll have to learn a little bit from that."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 Combos/M&M's Taurus
"I was just too free. We were really loose, actually. I just tried to keep it under me and not wreck because I think I'm gonna have a pretty decent car for Sunday. That ought to be close to the top 15, hopefully. That will give us a starting spot, but it's not as good where we want to be."
YOU TALKED ABOUT CURVE BALLS LAST WEEK WITH THE SCHEDULE. HAS THIS BEEN THE TOUGHEST ONE YET? "Yeah, I mean I like the impounding. I think it's fun and it does throw some curve balls at us and we just missed it a little bit more than some of the other guys did. But if you can't get the pole at least you can pass here starting in the back. We'll try to find us a good spot to run the first couple hundred miles and then try to go get 'em at the end."
MATT KENSETH - No. 17 Trex USG Sheetrock/DeWalt Taurus
"The track had a lot of grip, but I don't know what it is because I can't see where I'm going very good here at night. For some reason everything is all gray and I just did a bad job, but the car drove really awesome. It was really good and it had a few more tenths in it if somebody would have known where they're going around here, but I just didn't hit my marks at all. I was just kind of all over the place, but the car drove really good for a change in qualifying here so that's really good."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 National Guard/Subway Taurus
"That was a good run for us. It's getting late and the race track is really cooling down. It's a little bit tough to get grip out here, I think. You've got to get enough heat in the tires and trust it, but that's as hard as I wanted to push it tonight. It looks like we've got us a sixth-place starting spot for right now and I don't think many more cars will beat us. That's where we needed to be - inside the top 10 - and a good spot for Sunday."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Genuine Parts Taurus
"It was a pretty uneventful lap. I wished it was quicker, but I'm real, real happy with the way it was in race trim. Now we just have to stay out of wrecks. We've run fairly well, but we've just been getting in wrecks every week. The car was real racy on the stop watch and after three or four laps we're really good. We've been like that almost every week now, but we just haven't had a chance to show what we've got."
MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus
"That's actually better than we've been qualifying, so this impounding is a good thing for me. We picked up a half-second and the balance didn't change much. We have an incredible car, so that's why we qualified 12th instead of 22nd. Usually we qualify 22nd every week, so this is just an indication of it being a much better car than what we had last week and some better than the week before."
