Sadler Aims For First Top-Five Finish In Atlanta
CHARLOTTE, NC (March 14, 2005) -- There are two goals in mind for Elliott Sadler and the No. 38 Team as they head to Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend -- a top-five finish and returning to the top-10 in the NEXTEL Cup point standings. Over the past 39 races, this marks only the second time Sadler will enter a race weekend outside the top-10.
It's a situation that could be rectified if Sadler and company knock off their first top-five of the season, also marking a career first top-five at Atlanta for the Virginia native. To date, his best performance at the 1.5 mile facility was in the spring of 2003 as he started third and finished sixth.
Sadler will sport a special paint scheme this weekend as the No. 38 Ford will be painted with Combos® -- The Official Cheese Filled Snack of NASCAR. This is the first of three appearances the Combos® Brand will make this season on the No. 38 RYR Ford.
Quoting M&M'S® Driver Elliott Sadler: "We're heading to Atlanta looking to just put last weekend's finish at Las Vegas behind us and focus on working on the total race weekend package. The first two races, our qualifying wasn't really where it needed to be but we finished the race in or near the top-10. Last weekend, we qualified up to our standards but didn't finish well so this weekend in Atlanta we are hoping to put the total package together, qualify in the top-five and finish there as well."
"Just like a lot of other teams, we're still working with this new spoiler and tire package but our cars have been very competitive. We had a top-10 car in Vegas but just came up a little short in the end so we'll look to rebound in Atlanta. This is another strong track for our group, another mile and a half track, where we typically qualify and run well."
Quoting M&M'S® Spotter Brett Griffin: "Atlanta is fast and it's the style of race track where Elliott and our team have excelled in the past. I'm looking forward to the race because as the race progresses Atlanta becomes a multi-groove track and that makes it challenging for the drivers and the spotters because guys may pass you on the inside as well as the outside."
